I've tried your code here and the output is as clean as a whistle - no artifacts at all. I'm using 18F4550 @ 48MHz (20MHz external). I've taken a look at the KS0108 driver source and the timings are (generally) pretty generous, so I don't think that is the problem.

Maybe someone else can test on an EasyPIC?

I would be glad to test the code David (and xor) on my EasyPic3 and EasyPic4 (but I'll be absent for about 2 hours. I'll do tests when I'll be back late this afternoon).

I'll check my hardware a bit closer. I have a V1.02 EasyPIC4 and noticed that the new ones are V1.04. There might be something significant in that ... :? And I might have some nasty '4550's?

It was my PC hardware. The desktop power supply is not too healthy and it's playing havoc with my boards.
