The revised TAP-28 PIC application boards are finished and are great. For those of you who haven't seen the TAP-28, it's kind of a development board but with a twist. It's designed to be cheap, with the features needed in a board for an embedded application.

Traditional dev boards have many features that are great for doing development, but never get used once the board is in a dedicated application. The TAP-28 leaves the extras off, and provides connectors for hardware functions and real-world hardware and sensors. Instead of a mess of jumpers or soldered wires from all different directions, external devices use dedicated connectors for long-term reliability.

Bare TAP-28 boards are $10 or 3 for $25, and are licensed under a Creative Commons 3.0 sa-nc-by agreement. Gerber files are available at no charge to make boards for your own use or for sale commercially as a component in a larger system.

More information and all kinds of application examples are available on the TAP-28 web site.
