Re: neopixels

They really are. . . they look even better in reality, intense rich colour . . the newest ones have the controller chip built into the LED . very neat.

neopixels

A module for the really attractive LED "neopixels" would make an excellent addition to swordfish. . I do not have the skill to make a useful module . Just a suggestion . . The arduino libraries are not easy to follow . .

pickit2 response

I have had no problems with pickit2, worked with everything. I eventually came to conclusion debugging Swordfish in Mplab was not as useful as I had expected, the Swordfish IDE is good and works well with the Pickit software that pops up when you compile a prog. Is pickit3 a lot different? . . . Tha...

many thanks

Yes you were right, my fault in entering the numbers incorrectly. I could not understand why it would not work when obviously it should. Thank God for the Forum . . regards Nick

vid & pid

Hi, thanks for your response. Yes I did think to try this as I noticed the numbers were different in the .inf file, but it seems to have no effect. I just get the message about windows going on the net and searching for a suitable driver. I will try it again to make sure that this is not the problem...

USB VID & PID problem changing from default setting

Briefly I built a simple thermometer app using the ol' ds18b20. This communicates via CDC usb to an application written in Liberty Basic. I'ts a bit of fun as the temperature changes the face of a character rendered in 3d sofware changes. When it is hot he goes red and uncomfortable when it is cold ...

security key

Man those security keys are a real drag, imagine if every app had a security key, the world would be a poorer place.

Still enjoying the software though, so I can live with it . .

18f2450 bootloader

Is there a bootloader for the 2450 device, I programmed a USB/18b20 thermometer, and there was plenty memory to spare.

I know it is a little PIC but i'ts really cheap  (USB AS WELL) an easy to get, might be there but I cannot find one. regards Nick66

Thanks that is very helpful, from now on it's crystals, I had no idea they were so inaccurate I most definitely want a "tighter spec that gives me more confidence" . . regards Nick66 :D

Resonators

I notice nearly all the pic projects use xtals with caps. Does anyway have any strong feelings on the use of ceramic resonators with the caps built in, they have only 3 pins and a single componant making constructions simpler . . I have never had any problems with them but I do wonder sometimes If I...

pickit2

Yes the trick is to make sure your low cost debugger is PicKit2 compatable, I finally laid Lothars debugger to rest and invested in a PIckit2 . . wow! it was a pleasure to see it spring into life . . and fast, I had to stand back for fear of scorch marks . . works really well with sworfish code . . ...

Junebug?

Sometimes I wonder why I do this . . I'm rubbish at it . . I seem to have got the ICD working OK. Reserving the memory for the ICD is important otherwise the debug executive will not load. And the man is right, the settings are in ICD help. The Mplab software debugger is useful as well. I am wonderi...

ICD stepping ok

Well I just had to reply to myself and say that the Lothar Stoltz does in fact work fine, it is a bit slow though using RS232. I still think I'm going to give the Junebug a go though, my homemade hardware is frustrating beyond belief at times. Still it I am pleased that the Lothar Stoltz works. rega...

Lothar Stoltz ICD

I have a very simple ICD designed by Lothar Stoltz. Everything works up to the final bit where Mplab says "Connecting to debug executive" at this point It fails. Everything else is perfect, it compiles and programs the target etc. I have read the web page carefully and checked for the .cof file. The...
